Hauslett reduces rental scams and pressure tactics by coordinating inspections and securing transactions within a controlled process.
Why Rental Scams Happen
Rental fraud often happens because:
- Listings lack verification
- Payments occur before inspection
- Communication moves off-platform
- No third party enforces accountability
When information is unstructured and process is informal, risk increases.
Hauslett exists to reduce that risk.
Verified Listings
Listings on Hauslett must:
- Follow structured property-type requirements
- Provide required data fields
- Present clear cost breakdowns
This reduces ambiguity and prevents misrepresentation.
Users can report any inaccurate listing directly within the platform.
Coordinated Inspections
Inspections are not casual meetups.
When a renter books an inspection:
- It is recorded in the system
- A Hauslett Field Officer coordinates the process
- Attendance and conduct are monitored
This prevents:
- Fake agents
- Multiple renter scams
- High-pressure payment demands
Refundable Inspection Holds
Some inspections may require a refundable hold.
This serves to:
- Filter unserious bookings
- Reduce no-shows
- Protect agent time
If the transaction completes on Hauslett, the inspection hold is refunded according to platform policy.
Hauslett does not keep inspection holds by default.
Secure Transaction Flow
To maintain protection:
- Rental payments must follow the Hauslett process
- Off-platform diversions are discouraged
- Bypassing safeguards removes platform protection
Hauslett does not collect rent on behalf of landlords in Phase 1.
We coordinate the transaction flow to ensure clarity and accountability.
Zero Tolerance Behaviors
The following may result in account suspension:
- Listing false property information
- Attempting off-platform payments
- Pressuring renters for unrecorded payments
- Harassment during inspections
- Misrepresenting property ownership
Trust is maintained through enforcement.
Reporting & Support
If something feels wrong:
- Report the listing
- Report agent behavior
- Contact support directly
All reports are reviewed by the operations team.
Safety improves when issues are surfaced early.
